Great Books Discussion Group to tackle 'Interpreter of Maladies'

The Great Books Discussion Group will meet at the San Marcos Public Library to discuss Jhumpa Lahiri’s Interpreter of Maladies on Sept. 20.

The Great Books Discussion Group at the San Marcos Public Library, 625 East Hopkins Street, will meet on Sept. 20 at 7 p.m., to discuss Jhumpa Lahiri’s Interpreter of Maladies. New members are always welcome to join the group at any time.

Lahiri’s book, which consists  of nine short stories, won the Pulitzer Prize for fiction in 2000 as well as the Hemingway Foundation/PEN award. The book has sold more than 15 million copies worldwide. New Yorker magazine listed it as the “Best Debut of the Year” and it is on Oprah Winfrey’s top ten book list.

The book deals with the traditions and culture of India and the lives of Indian Americans adapting to the culture of America.
