The City of San Marcos will celebrate Veterans Day on Nov. 6 with a parade starting at 10 a.m. that will wind through downtown San Marcos. The celebration is sponsored by the city with support from the Veterans Affairs Advisory Committee and local veterans’ organizations. The theme for the event is “Honoring All Who Served.”
The traditional and enormously popular biscuits and gravy breakfast will again be served on the Hays County Courthouse lawn beginning at 8:30 a.m.
Nominations are currently being taken for the grand marshall of the Veterans Day parade. The nomination form is posted on the city website www.sanmarcostx.gov/departments/parks/index.htm. The nomination deadline is Oct. 1.
Grand marshall nominees must be San Marcos Area residents who served in the U.S. military during times of military conflict. The nominees should have been honorably discharged and willing to share their military service memories.
Nomination forms may be submitted to Lisa Morris at firstname.lastname@example.org. They may also be dropped off at Parks and Recreation in the Grant Harris Jr. Building, 401 East Hopkins Street.
The deadline for entering the parade is Oct. 16. Parade applications may be found by visiting the city’s website at www.sanmarcostx.gov. Businesses, organizations, individuals, veterans groups, military organizations, civic clubs, bands, drill teams, public officials, equestrians, youth teams, classic vehicles and educational institutions are all encouraged to join the parade.
