SOAR seeks donations and volunteers for education fair

Seeking Opportunities, Achieving Results (SOAR) will hold its third annual San Marcos Education Fair from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the San Marcos Conference Center on Oct. 9. The event helps families become more connected to their children’s education by offering contact with social service agencies that work for the success of the student. The education fair is open to the public and admission is free.

Last year’s fair featured more than 63 booths and three activity stations that provided information on early childhood development, elementary, middle and high schools in the area, college admission and continuing education opportunities.

Attendees visiting a minimum of six booths may enter a drawing to win prizes including gift cards, bicycles and laptop computers.

Donations are being solicited from area businesses for the prizes. For information on how businesses can help spread the message that “education pays” by contributing prizes or volunteer support, contact the Chamber SOAR liason Margaret Lindsey at (512) 393-5910.

For more information on becoming a part of SOAR or to participate in the San Marcos Education Fair contact the San Marcos Chamber of Commerce at (512) 393-5900 or visit

Current SOAR programs include initiatives to increase school readiness in early childhood and efforts to eliminate disparities in the education system by increasing college access and preparedness.

SOAR is a collaboration of the San Marcos Educational Partners and includes Texas State, San Marcos CISD, the San Marcos Education Foundation, the San Marcos Area Chamber of Commerce, United Way of Hays County, Austin Community College, Gary Job Corp, the City of San Marcos, San Marcos Baptist Academy and the San Marcos Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.
