Texas State volleyball coach Karen Chisum is going for her 300th career victory Tuesday night when the Bobcats play Prairie View A&M at Strahan Coliseum (6:30 p.m.).
Entering the season with 697 career wins, Chisum has the Bobcats at 2-4 as they enter their home opener.
Chisum is in her 31st season as the Bobcats’ head volleyball coach. Chisum has more wins than any other active coach in NCAA Division I volleyball and she ranks 15th on the all-time list.
Under Chisum, the Bobcats have won six regular season conference championships in and six Southland Conference tournaments. In 2009, the Bobcats qualified for the NCAA Tournament for the seventh time.
Chisum has been named Southland Conference Coach of the Year in 1991, 2000 and 2003, and won that honor in the Gulf Star Conference in 1986.
Chisum, a graduate of Texas State, began her coaching career at Goodnight Middle School and as an assistant at San Marcos High School before becoming head volleyball coach at New Braunfels. Chisum led the Unicorns to a state runner-up finish in Class 3A in 1978. In 1980, she became Texas State’s fifth volleyball coach.Email | Print
