The Texas State soccer team is 1-2 after splitting two games at the Texas-El Paso Miners Classic and now awaits its first home game of the season Friday.
The Bobcats will play California-Riverside Friday at 7 p.m. at the Bobcat soccer complex.
The Bobcats won their first game in El Paso on Aug. 27, outshooting Utah Valley, 24-7, in a 1-0 victory to start the classic. The Bobcats scored in the 70th minute, when Ashley Gowda played a ball through that led to a partial breakaway and Britney Curry was waiting inside the box to tap the ball past a fresh goaltender, Utah Valley’s Lauren Sack. Texas State goaltender Lauren Frazier made four saves in her 90 minutes for the win in goal to go 1-1.
However, the Bobcats lost the next day to Fresno State, 1-0 in overtime. Fresno State outshot Texas State, 22-5, nabbing the win with a goal in the 115th minute by Janna Sadowitz.
The Bobcats lost their first game of the season, 2-0, at Texas Tech on Aug. 22. Taylor Lytle and Sarah Ellison scored the goals for Texas Tech, which held a 23-11 shot advantage.Email | Print
