STAFF REPORT

Wide receiver Markee White, a star player on Texas State’s Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) semifinal team in 2005, led the Spokane Shock to the Arena Bowl championship Saturday with nine catches for 99 yards and four touchdowns.

The Shock defeated the Tampa Bay Storm 69-57 in front of a sellout crowd of 11,017 fans at the Spokane Tribe Field, capping off a 15-3 record in its first Arena Football League (AFL) season.

White played at Texas State in 2004 and 2005, catching 67 passes for 980 yards in 20 games. His 14.63 career yards per catch average is the eighth highest career average at Texas State.

White’s best season at Texas State came in 2005, when he led the Bobcats with 56 catches for 786 passes and five touchdowns. He was named an All-Southland Conference first-team wide receiver as a senior and helped Texas State finish with an 11-3 record and earn a berth to the NCAA FCS semifinals.

In 2007, the St. Louis Rams signed White as a free agent, then released him following training camp. He signed with Spokane in October 2009.
A 6-foot-7, 215-pound wide receiver for the Shock, White caught his four touchdown passes in the second quarter to help Spokane build a 34-28 lead at halftime. His first touchdown catch was from five yards out early in the quarter. Then, he caught a four-yard touchdown with 10:34 left in the first half. His final two touchdown receptions came in the final minute of the half, when he caught a 15-yard touchdown pass with 57 seconds left and made a 22-yard touchdown catch with 10 seconds remaining.

White played in 10 regular season games for Spokane this season, recording 66 catches for 925 yards and 18 touchdowns. In three playoff games, he caught 24 more passes for 234 yards and eight touchdowns while helping Spokane win the 2010 league championship.

  1. White is a great guy and a top AFL player. He just signed a contract with Hartford in the UFL and I wish him all the best with his new team.
