The public is invited to an open house 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, August 24 on proposed improvements to the Hopkins/ Thorpe Lane intersection, one of the major thoroughfares in San Marcos.
The event will be held in Room 3 at the Activity Center, 501 E. Hopkins, sponsored by the City of San Marcos, Texas Department of Transportation and Kimley-Horn and Associates, Inc. Residents will be able to receive information and comment on the proposed intersection improvements.
The project would add a second left-turn lane for both the eastbound and the southbound approaches and a new right-turn for the westbound approach.
Other improvements would include new median islands, new and reconstructed sidewalks, a ten foot wide shared-use path along the south side of Hopkins Street, minor drainage improvements, a new pavement overlay surface, minor traffic signal adjustments, and new pavement markings and signs.
The purpose of the open house is to distribute information and obtain public input concerning the proposed improvements. The project limits are from Charles Austin Drive to Long Street, approximately one-quarter mile along Hopkins Street.
No formal presentation will be made. City of San Marcos Capital Improvements staff and consulting engineers will be available to answer questions. Preliminary drawings will be on display.
Verbal and/or written comments regarding the proposed project may be presented at the event. Written statements may also be submitted to the City of San Marcos; c/o Capital Improvements Department; 630 E. Hopkins; San Marcos, Texas 78666.
