The Texas State football team concluded its second week of practice last Saturday with a 90-play scripted scrimmage at Bobcat Stadium.
Texas State head coach Brad Wright came out of the scrimmage pleased with the improving consistency of the team’s defense.
“I think that guys are making plays when they need to make plays,” Wright said. “That is a tribute to our defensive staff because they have been here two years and the kids are comfortable with what we are doing. Offensively, we need to work on developing some consistency, and we need to eliminate some mistakes.”
Junior college transfer Thaddeus Watkins joined the starting offensive line in Saturday’s scrimmage.
“We have had to juggle through some injuries this week, and there have been some guys getting lots of reps there,” Wright added. “That is going to pay off for us in the end. We just look forward to having the others back out there this Monday.”
Wright also said he was pleased with redshirt freshman running back Dexter Imade, who carried the load for ailing running back Frank Reddic.
“Dexter ran very hard today, and it was good to see him put his shoulders down and getting yardage,” Wright said. “He had a couple of very good runs from what I remember. We also will get Frank Reddic back at full speed on Monday. He has practiced the past couple of days, so he should be back at full speed.”
The Bobcats returned to practice Monday morning to start their third week of preseason workouts. Texas State also will practice Tuesday morning before moving to the afternoons the rest of the week. Fall semester classes start on Wednesday at Texas State.Email | Print
