The San Marcos City Council fired City Manager Rick Menchaca by a 4-3 vote on June 24. The city council has since picked a search firm for a city manager after issuing a request for proposals stipulating that a new city manager is to be hired within 60 days.

The RFP also stipulated that city manager profile in use by the city would be revised so that candidates would not be required to have municipal experience.
