McCarty Lane to close for utility work

The City of San Marcos will close McCarty Lane from July 19 to Aug. 6 from east of the Embassy Suites Hotel & City of San Marcos Conference Center to the intersection of Old Bastrop Highway for gas line utility work.

The road will be closed to all through traffic for approximately three weeks. Residents living in the construction zone will have access to the roadway after 6 p.m. daily and on weekends. Motorists are advised to follow detour signs and seek alternative routes.

Alternate routes include:

Centerpoint Road

From I-35 North take Exit 200, Centerpoint Road, turn right (east) at the intersection, continue to travel east on Centerpoint to Old Bastrop Highway.

From I-35 South take Exit 200, Centerpoint Road, turn left (east) at the intersection and go under the overpass, continue to travel east on Centerpoint to Old Bastrop Highway.

Clovis Barker Road

From I-35 North take Exit 201, McCarty Lane, go straight at the intersection and continue traveling on the northbound service road, turn right at Clovis Barker Road, turn right at Highway 123, turn right at Old Bastrop Highway.

From I-35 South take Exit 201, McCarty Lane, turn left (east) at the intersection and go under the overpass, turn left at the second intersection and continue traveling on the northbound service road, turn right at Clovis Barker Road, turn right at Highway 123, turn right at Old Bastrop Highway.

Texas Sterling of Austin began construction April 26 on the $6.5 million, one mile widening and reconstruction project which will provide a safer route for residents and visitors traveling east of I-35 on McCarty Lane.

Construction timelines are being expedited to meet the projected fall completion date and to achieve project milestones during the summer months when traffic counts on McCarty are reduced.
