2009 Darnd’st Duathlon winner Derek Yorek takes water from CASA Board Member John Kittle as he heads out for the last leg of the race.
It is time once again for the Darnd’st Du 5K Run/30 K Bike/5K Run, which starts at Tanger Outlet Center on Aug.15 at 7 a.m. The event is a USA Triathlon (USAT) sanctioned duathlon to benefit Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Central Texas.
The biking and running takes place through the countryside of San Marcos and ends at the place where it all started, Tanger Outlet Center.
Participants must have USAT membership or purchase a one-day membership for $10. Rules from USAT apply to the event. Bikers must wear helmets and cannot wear headphones. Riding in a racer’s draft, which is sometimes called “wheel sucking,” elbowing, and other unsportsmanlike behavior is not allowed.
Racers are cautioned to dress accordingly, as the weather will be hot. Wearing sunscreen is strongly recommended. There will be aid stations on the course throughout the race, but racers should bring extra fluids along for safety.
After the race, there will be a barbecue with burgers, hot dogs and ice cold water and soft drinks. Awards and prizes will be given, and all finishers will receive commemorative items.
Early registration is recommended as the cap for participants is 500. Online registration closes on Aug. 13 at 2 p.m. Registration packets will be distributed from 12-5 p.m. at Tanger Outlet Center and Jack and Adam’s Bicycles, 1210 Barton Springs Road in Austin.
