Boot Scootin' Foodie promises something for everyone


Texas Renegade will play at the United Way’s fundraiser Boot Scootin’ Foodie on Aug. 29.


United Way of Hays County recently announced that its 2010 annual fund raising event, the Taste of Hays County’s Boot Scootin’ Foodie, will take place on Aug. 29 from 5-9 p.m. at Texas Old Town Event Center in Kyle.

The unique event will feature restaurants and businesses from all across the county. Each featured restaurant and business will have one or two menu items for all attendees to sample, then those attendees can vote on their favorites.

“The Boot Scootin’ Foodie is important to our organization,” said Michelle Harper, executive director of the United Way of Hays County. “Our goal is to establish an annual event for the organization that can experience continual growth, publicize what we and our partner agencies do to help Hays County residents, and additionally promote our local restaurants and businesses in the community.”

The Boot Scootin’ Foodie will include musical entertainment provided by Texas Renegade and the Crystal Creek Boys. The event will feature a silent auction and a variety of foods.

Restaurants currently slated to provide food for the evening include Carino’s, Hatfield’s Drive-In, the Tap Room, Saltgrass Steakhouse, Mochas and Javas, Cheryl Bailey Catering, Lucky Sailor Oyster Bar, Lucky’s Kitchen and Cocktails, Centerpoint Station, Bordeaux’s, Nonna Gina’s, Milagro’s, Palmer’s, Brewster’s Pizza, the Gourmet Tamale Factory, Herbert’s Taco Hut, Seton Medical Center Hays and the Motley Menagerie.

Mary Ann Mattis is serving as the Chair of the Special Events Committee for the United way of Hays County Board of Directors.

“Our event is one that all Hays County residents can take part in, whether by being a vendor, a sponsor, the entertainment or simply a patron,” said Mattis. “It will be a time for everyone to come together and support our annual fundraising campaign.”

Hays County residents supporting the event include  Executive Chef Sponsor FriDaze Liquors, Sous Chef sponsors,Mike and Kristi Abild, Apprentice level sponsors Butler Manufacturing and 1836 Realty and Property Management and Cook level sponsors Iris Campbell, Bobbi Carmichael, Melinda Edmondson, Susan Fisher, Bruce Harper, Michelle Lopez, Mary Ann Mattis, John Navarrette, Ryan Patrick Perkins, Kim Porterfield, Dr. Oren Renick, Lisa Searle, Phyllis Snodgrass and Robert Updegrove

Sponsorships for the event are $100 and are still available. Tickets for the event are on sale now for $25 in advance and can be purchased by emailing or calling (512) 353-1420. Tickets will available on the night of the event at the door for $30.

All contributions stay in the local community. The United Way is a non-profit agency that supports children, the financially unable and those with disabilities.
