City permit center launches web utility

STAFF REPORT

The City of San Marcos Permit Center has launched a new website that gives citizens and contractors the ability to access online permit information. The utility will allow users to do business with the city at all hours of the day or night.

The new web service offers citizens, developers and contractors the option to check the status of active permits. Contractors also may schedule inspections online and view the results of the inspections. The new system will allow the permit center to streamline the flow of information and provide faster results.

“It has already increased efficiency,” said Frank Becerra of Balfour Beatty, which does business with the city. “The system has the capability for contractors requesting inspections to enter notes related to the inspection, so that the inspector who will be visiting the site has more specific information available when scheduling his inspections and can be better prepared. The ‘real-time’ nature of the system is a plus.”

The permit center web feature is available at http://permits.sanmarcostx.gov.
