STAFF REPORT

San Marcos Baptist Academy (SMBA) was recently given a $300 donation from the San Marcos Sam’s Club, which will go to help the school’s innovative Adopt-a-School Reading Program.

Sam’s Club Benefits Coordinator Becky Holt presented the check to SMBA Communications Director Shelley Henry on June 22.

The Adopt-a-School program links local elementary schools with student-athletes from SMBA, who then act as mentors to the younger students, reading to them and encouraging them to read and do well in school. The program was initiated in 2009.

SMBA will continue the program at the start of the 2010 school year with the support received from Sam’s Club. The San Marcos Sam’s Club is one of 70 local businesses who are members of the SMBA Bear Club.
