The completion of the Wonder World Drive extension means residents on the traditional Ranch Road 12 will now have new addresses.
The San Marcos City Council approved an ordinance earlier this month designating the Wonder World Drive extension as FM 3407 and Ranch Road 12. The new arrangement creates a continued roadway from Wimberley to Interstate-35. But that route does not include a portion of the road that used to be Ranch Road 12.
With the change to the state road system, the homes and businesses that are currently addressed off of Ranch Road 12 from Oscar Smith Street to the new intersection will have a new street name. The address numbers for each parcel will remain the same, but the street name will change to Old Ranch Road 12.
The extension will open on July 24, but the address changes are effective immediately.
The city has sent letters to inform the property owners of the change. The city also has notified CenturyTel, the U.S. Post Office, Center Point Energy, Time Warner Cable, EMS dispatchers, and the Hays County Central Appraisal District of the change. The post office will continue to deliver mail to the Ranch Road 12 addresses for one year.
With approval from the Texas Transportation Commission on June, Interstate signage will direct Wimberley traffic to the new road.
