The Friends of the Family Justice Center (FFJC) will hold their first annual Friends and Legends Party at Dick’s Classic Garage on June 27 from 3-5 p.m.

The day features live entertainment and food and drinks from Cool Mint Cafe. In addition to the highly polished classic cars to peruse, the event will also feature a bucket raffle.

Tickets are $35 per person or $50 per couple. Some sponsorship opportunities are available, as well. For information about online ticket purchase or sponsorships, visit

FFJC has partnered with three other social service organizations to raise money to construct the Village Main building on the 29 acre Village Campus in San Marcos. The three other social service organizations include: Community Action Inc. of Hays, Caldwell and Blanco Counties; Early Childhood Intervention (ECI) Homespun of Hays County; and the Women, Infant and Children’s Program (WIC) City of San Marcos, which serves Hays, Caldwell, Guadalupe and Comal Counties.

The Family Justice Center is based on the successful model created in San Diego, where the rise in family violence spurred the city prosecutor to launch a program devoted to the protection of the victims. The center brings law  enforcement, medical care and child care, counseling and other social services to one place, assisting victims and their families.

The San Diego Center now handles more than 500 clients and 3,000 calls per month. Bexar County in San Antonio built a family justice center modeled on the San Diego program, as well.

Planning is underway for the San Marcos–Hays County Family Justice Center, which will serve all of Hays County. The family justice center will be a safe place that ensures victims will not meet their batterer, as can happen in courtrooms, police departments, or other social service agencies. Family Justice Centers are for victims only.

The Friends of the Family Justice center website cautions, ” These centers do not replace the local battered women’s shelter. Unfortunately, there is enough domestic violence to go around.”

Partner organizations in the Hays County Family Justice Center include  the San Marcos Police Department, the Hays County District Attorney’s Office, the Hays County Sheriff’s Office, Hays County Personal Health Department, Texas State, Crime Victim Services–San Marcos Police, Civil Legal Aid Partners and Central Texas Medical Center.
