Texas State, U. of Houston set kickoff time for season opener

HOUSTON — The kickoff time for the Texas State University football team’s 2010 season opening game at the University of Houston is slated for 7 p.m. Sept. 4 at Robertson Stadium in Houston.

This season, Texas State is ranked in three preseason polls after finishing the 2009 campaign ranked No. 24 in the FCS Coaches poll and No. 25 in The Sports Network poll. The Bobcats are ranked No. 13 by Lindy’s, No. 21 by The FCS Now poll and No. 25 by Athlon.

Texas State’s offensive unit is headlined by record-setting senior wide receiver Da’Marcus Griggs and junior guard D. J. Hall, who both have been named among the nation’s top FCS players at their respective positions by The Sports Network and preseason Honorable Mention All-America selections. Last season, Griggs caught 80 passes for 969 yards and eight touchdowns. Hall is a two-time All-Southland Conference selection who has started 24 straight seasons for the Bobcats at right guard.

On defense, senior Marcus Clark returns at linebacker after leading the Bobcats in tackles with 99 in his third season as a starter in 2009. Returning on the defensive line is senior Ron Jackson at defensive end and junior Adley Eshraghipour at defensive tackle. Jackson led the Bobcats in quarterback sacks and Eshraghipour earned Honorable Mention All-SLC honors in 2009.

Following the game at Houston, Texas State plays three straight home games against Southern Arkansas on Sept. 11, Cal Poly on Sept. 18 and Southern Utah on Sept. 25. The Bobcats also plays home games against Southland Conference opponents Nicholls on Oct. 16, Northwestern State on Oct. 23 and Central Arkansas on Nov. 6.
