Two Bobcats left in NCAA track regional

Two Texas State track and field athletes finished up their seasons Friday at the NCAA West Regional Track and Field Championships in Austin. Two other Bobcats will try Saturday to qualify for the NCAA finals.

Junior sprinter Kevin Aje finished 21st in the 100-meter dash quarterfinals to finish 21st overall. His time was 10.61 seconds after a season best of 10.43 at the Southland Conference meet.

Katie Hanie finished 23rd for Texas State in the women’s discus throw with a mark of 47.23 meters (154 feet, 11 inches) to close out her college career. Hanie has the sixth-best mark in school history of 50.43 meters (165-5), which she recorded in 2007.

Saturday, freshman Lisa Bingham and senior Valerie Hancock will participate in the high jump. Bingham won the event at the Southland Conference Outdoor Championships with a height of 1.72 meters (5-7.75). Hancock placed fourth at conference, but has a season-best height of 1.75 meters (5-8.50). The high jump will be held on Saturday at 4 p.m.
