Former Houston Oilers head coach Ed Biles will be at a free football camp put on by San Marcos Baptist Academy.
San Marcos Baptist Academy (SMBA) announced that it will hold its first SMBA Bear Club All-Pro Football Camp from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on June 19.
Former Houston Oilers head coach Ed Biles will headline the free camp. Biles will be be joined by former Texas Copperheads (AFL2) coach Bryan Blake and SMBA head football coach Les Davis.
Other area football football stars, players and coaches are scheduled to appear, as well, at the one-day camp.
The camp was initiated with the idea that many talented high school football players get overlooked by college and university coaches and recruiters because the players have not appeared in camps where their talents can be noticed. The Bear Club at SMBA hopes to provide this opportunity at the free camp taking place at A+FCU Stadium, where incoming 8th-12th grade athletes can improve their skills and be seen by coaches and recruiters.
“One of my goals when I started here was to give all kids the opportunity to attend a free football summer camp and increase their skill levels prior to the upcoming season,” said Ronald Oswalt, SMA Athletic Development Director.
The camp will be sponsored by Austin Extreme Graphics and Central Texas Collision.
Debbie Ohlman, Austin Extreme Graphics CEO, said, “Any time our family of companies can help our area youth and give them a outstanding experience with professional coaching, we are behind it.”
Registration is now open for this football opportunity. Spots should be reserved soon for 8th-12th grade athletes as the enrollment for the camp will be limited. The registration deadline for the SMBA Bear Club Camp is June 1.
