The List: Roads, trails Hays County wants in CAMPO master plan

In addition to keeping Texas 45 Southwest in the program, Hays County officials hope to add transportation projects totaling $473 million to the Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization’s 25-year master plan. Inclusion in the plan does not guarantee future funding.

  • U.S. 290 W, between Ranch Road 12 and RM 165. Add a median to 8.3 miles of the arterial highway. Proposed start: 2012 first phase; 2018 second phase. Estimated cost in year of expenditure: $27.4 million.
  • Texas 21, between the Bastrop County line and Texas 80. Expand 20.9 miles of the existing two-lane rural road to a four-lane divided arterial with shoulders and hike/bike lanes. Proposed start: 2026 first and second phase. Estimated cost in year of expenditure: $198.6 million.
  • Texas 45 Southwest. between FM 1626 and Interstate 35. Conduct environmental and preliminary engineering analysis for a segment of new highway. Proposed start: 2018. Estimated cost in year of expenditure: $8.2 million.
  • Ranch Road 12 between CR 101 and FM 150. Expand 6.3 miles of the rural road to a four-lane divided arterial with shoulder, hike/bike lanes and sidewalks. Proposed start: 2015. Estimated cost in year of expenditure: $40.5 million.
  • Ranch Road 12 between RM 32 and the San Marcos city limits. Expand 4.6 miles of the two-lane rural road to a four-lane parkway. Proposed start: 2020. Estimated cost in year of expenditure: $96.2 million.
  • FM 150 (Rebel Drive), between FM 2770 and W. Center Street. Expand 1.7 miles of the two-lane road to a four-lane divided arterial with shoulders, hike/bike lanes and sidewalks. Proposed start: 2015. Estimated cost in year of expenditure: $6.2 million (with City of Kyle contribution).
  • Kyle Loop West, between Kohlers Crossing and Interstate 35 at CR 158. Widen to or build new four-lane thoroughfare. Proposed start: 2016. Estimated cost in year of expenditure: $19.7 million (with City of Kyle contribution).
  • Kyle Loop East, between Interstate 35 at CR 158 to Interstate 35 at Dry Hole Road. Widen to or build a new four-lane thoroughfare. Proposed start: 2016. Estimated cost in year of expenditure: $48.5 million (with City of Kyle contribution).
  • Old Bastrop Highway, from Texas 21 to Staples Road (FM 621). Add a median to existing two-lane road, replace a bridge over the San Marcos River and improve its intersection with Texas 21. Proposed completion: 2015. Estimated cost in year of expenditure: $1.8 million.
  • Onion Creek hike/bike trail. Construct a hike and bike trail along Onion Creek between Pursley Road (CR 195) and RR 12. Proposed start: 2025. Estimated cost in year of expenditure: $16.2 million.
  • Plum Creek nature trail. Construct a bike and bike trail along Plum Creek between Interstate 35 and the Caldwell County line. Proposed start: 2015. Estimated cost in year of completion: $9.7 million (with City of Kyle contribution).
