City of San Marcos crews plan to switch traffic from the current RR 12 detour configuration to new pavement at Wonder World Drive Thursday, weather permitting.
The switch is part of phase four of the $26.38 million Wonder World Drive extension project.
The detour plan includes moving westbound and eastbound traffic onto the new roadway constructed for the permanently rerouted RR 12 and West Wonder World Drive intersection configuration.
Stop signs and overhead illumination will be utilized at the new intersection to enhance roadway safety and reduce traffic speed. Motorists are advised to expect delays as traffic is rerouted.
City officials said construction on the city’s largest transportation project in history is progressing on schedule. The West Wonder World Drive extension expected to open in July and the Craddock Avenue extension expected to open in the Fall.
The West Wonder World Drive extension will be a 3.2-mile, four-lane limited access divided parkway from Hunter Road to RR 12 providing a direct link to Interstate-35.
The road is designed to improve traffic flow to and from western Hays County and relieve the downtown area and many residential neighborhoods of heavy truck and through traffic.Email | Print
