City announces traffic update through May 22

Following are the road and street projects affecting traffic in San Marcos for the next week (May 16-22) as announced by the City of San Marcos.

C.M. Allen Parkway: One lane at a time is closed from the Interstate-35 frontage road to Hopkins Street due to milling and overlay until the end of May. Call the city’s public services department at (512) 393-8036.

Cheatham Street: Rio Vista Street to Field Street will be closed to through traffic for installation of a new wastewater line. At Riverside Drive, one lane closed at Cheatham Street starting May 17 for approximately one week or until the work is completed. Motorists are advised to follow detour signs and use Haynes Street, Field Street, Sycamore Street or the Interstate-35 frontage road to avoid the area. This is part of the Rio Vista Terrace neighborhood improvement project. Call the city’s capital improvements department at (512) 393-8130.

Craddock Avenue: Construction on the Craddock Avenue extension from Bishop Street to Wonder World Drive will continue through August. The intersection of Bishop and Craddock will be closed during construction.  To turn left on Bishop, detour left on Allen Street. To turn right on Bishop, continue straight and follow the cones. Motorists should watch for heavy construction equipment at Wonder World Drive, Bishop Street and the park road at the end of Franklin Street. Comanche Street: Construction of a new waterline will start on May 17 from Hutchison Street to MLK Drive. The project is expected to take three months and construction will be limited to one block at a time. Motorists should follow detour signs. Downtown Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) improvements: Construction will take place on many of the handicap ramps throughout the downtown area starting on May 17. Lanes will be closed, but the streets will remain open. Scheduled for completion at the end of summer. Call the city’s capital improvements department at (512) 393-8130.

East McCarty Lane: Construction of additional lanes began in April outside existing pavement with minimal impact to motorists. McCarty Lane will remain in service during the project until the final connection to the new improvements is made around October or November. Drivers should watch for heavy equipment, slow vehicles, stopped vehicles and periodic closures between Interstate-35 and Old Bastrop Highway. Haynes Street: Closed to through traffic in different sections from Riverside Drive to Cheatham Street for the installation of a new water line until the end of June. Motorists are advised to use C. M. Allen Parkway or Hopkins Street as possible detour routes. This is part of the Rio Vista Terrace neighborhood improvement project. Ranch Road 12: Traffic in the 2400 block will be detoured onto the new pavement, weather permitting, on May 20. Drive carefully and be aware of construction vehicles and workers in construction area. Construction will continue until further notice. Call the city’s capital improvements department at (512) 393-8130.

Sessom Drive: The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) will begin resurfacing on the evening of May 16 from University Drive to Academy Street. The project will include guardrail improvement, milling and overlay to create a smooth final surface with fresh striping.  Final completion scheduled for early July. Weatherford Street: One lane will be closed due to lane widening, curb and gutter improvements until the June. Call the city’s public services department at (512) 393-8036.

Wonder World Drive at Hunter Road: Northbound motorist may make the right turn at Wonder World Drive. Large trucks should detour to Stagecoach Trail. Sidewalk is closed on Hunter Road at construction entrance until further notice. Call the city’s public services department at (512) 393-8036.
