Texas State’s baseball team started a meeting against No. 7 Texas Christian (TCU) by matching the Horned Frogs hit for hit, but the Frogs kept hitting and the Bobcats didn’t.
So, TCU bounced out of San Marcos with a 10-5 win, improving its record to 37-10. The No. 29 Bobcats are 30-17.
The Bobcats opened the scoring with two runs in the bottom of the first inning on Jeff McVaney’s double. But TCU piled up six runs in the second inning against Texas State starter Brian Borski, who fell to 1-8. The big blow was a three-run double by Jantzen Witte.
Texas State came back with three runs in its half of the second inning to reach within 6-5, scoring two of the runs on Jason Martinson’s single.
But TCU broke the game little by little, scoring single runs in the sixth and seventh innings, then two more in the eighth.
Witte was the hitting star, going two-for-three with five RBI. TCU first baseman Matt Curry was four-for-five with two RBI.
The Bobcats, who hold a two-game lead in the Southland Conference, return to league play this weekend with a three-game series at Nicholls State.Email | Print
