The San Marcos Superintendent’s Student of the Month for May is De Zavala Elementary School fifth grader Eric Rodriguez. He is the son of Richard and Norma Rodriguez of Martindale.

Superintendent Patty Shafer met with Rodriguez  to congratulate him on his selection and to get know him better. He said he would like to attend Austin Community College for two years after his high school graduation, then transfer to either Baylor or Princeton to pursue studies as a forensic crime scene investigator.

However, the De Zavala front office personnel are convinced he’ll be President of the United States someday. Rodriguez jokes that he’ll solve crime for a while before he runs for president.

“Eric is a very outgoing and responsible student,” De Zavala Principal Dolores Cruz said. “He is motivated to always do his best in school. He is a good role model for other students and applies himself to any task he is given.”

Rodriguez enjoys all of his subjects, with the exception of physical education, but this is only because he’s been experiencing some foot problems. In spite of this, his favorite pastime after school is playing basketball.
