Since 1985, Public Service Recognition Week has been a nationwide event honoring the men and women who serve the country as federal, state, county and local government employees. A few of the 7,000 public employees of San Marcos and Hays County accepted proclamations from the city celebrating the week, which runs May 3-9 this year.
Each year, the President and Congress designate the first full week of May as Public Service Week. This year’s theme is “Innovation and Opportunity,” and hopes to give citizens a chance to see the amount and breadth of work being done in government every day by public services workers.
