County to break ground on government center

STAFF REPORT

The Hays County Commissioners Court is inviting the public to attend the official groundbreaking of the new Hays County Government Center on Friday at 2 p.m. The center will be located at 710 South Stagecoach Trail in San Marcos.

Among the expected speakers are Hays County Commissioner Precinct 1 Debbie Ingalsbe (D-San Marcos), in whose precinct the center is located, U.S. Representative Lloyd Doggett (D-Austin), State Senator Jeff Wentworth (R-San Antonio) and State Representative Representative Patrick Rose (D-San Marcos).

Image boards of the center, planned for completion in December 2011, will be on display, as will a timeline for construction activities. Representatives of the project management, design and construction companies will be available to answer questions.

The new building is intended to help provide one-stop shopping for county services by co-locating many of the Hays County offices currently scattered throughout the San Marcos area. The three-story building is designed to provide safe, secure courtrooms, as well as adequate workspace as the county grows in population and services.

Attendees are encouraged to carpool, due to limited parking, and to choose footwear appropriate for a construction site.
