HUNTSVILLE — The Texas State women’s golf team is in third place after Monday’s first round of the Southland Conference Championship Tournament at Raven Nest Golf Club.
The Bobcats fired a collective 297 (13 over par) on the par-71, 6,943-yard course, leaving them within four strokes of first place.
“We had a really nice round today until the final three holes,” said Texas State head coach Mike Akers. “We had some mistakes at the end, but are still in great shape to win the championship.”
Sam Houston State and Central Arkansas each shot 293 to share first place, while McNeese State (298) and Texas-San Antonio (307) follow the Bobcats to round out the top five through 18 holes.
Valdis Jonsdottir paced Texas State with an even-par 71, putting the freshman in third place overall behind Sam Houston State’s Meghan Musk and Central Arkansas’ Rebecca Sorensen, who tied for first at 70.
Krista Puisite is tied in 10th place for Texas State after shooting a 74, while Texas State’s Caitlin Bliss and Gabby de Reuck are tied in 14th with a 76. Katinka Dufour tied a season-low 77 this afternoon and is tied in 18th place for the Bobcats.
Round two of the championship tournament is being played Tuesday, with the tournament to end Wednesday.Email | Print
