The Texas School Pubic Relations Association (TSPRA) banquet held early this spring yielded two Gold Star Awards  and one Best of Category award for San Marcos CISD.

The two award winning stories were “Nostalgic Farewell,” about the moving of the historic Bonham Elementary School campus to new facilities at Hernandez Elementary School, and “A House and Friends Who Built It,” about the high school trades class that help complete a home for a family who could not do so.

The Bonham article also won the Best in Category award for San Marcos CISD Public Relations Officer Iris Campbell. The award was for Texas school districts with 10,000 or fewer students in Texas. According to TSPRA the award is given “for an entry that stands out from all the others for its exceptional creativity and quality.”

During the TSPRA event, Superintendent Patty Shafer took part in a “Superintendent’s Panel” as well as a workshop on the community organization Seeking Opportunities, Achieving Results ( SOAR). She was joined in presenting the workshop by San Marcos Chamber of Commerce President Phyllis Snodgrass and Texas State’s Dr. Michelle Pope. The SOAR workshop will also be presented by the three at a national conference this summer in North Carolina.

The Austin-based TSPRA is a professional organization dedicated to promoting effective public relations practices and improving communications between Texans and their public schools.
