City wins $10,000 grant from Texas Arts Commission

The City of San Marcos has received a $10,000 grant from the Texas Commission on the Arts to support local artists and arts organizations.

The TCA’s mission is to develop a receptive climate for the arts in Texas. To accomplish this mission, the commission awards grants, promotes the arts, and provides specialized services to the arts and cultural industries.

The City of San Marcos will distribute the funds through a competitive “Mini-Grant” application process to be administered by the Parks and Recreation Division and the Arts Commission.

Applications will be reviewed by a newly formed Peer Review Panel that will score the proposals and make recommendations to the Arts Commission.

Local Artists and Arts Organizations are encouraged to complete an application for projects that will promote the accessibility to and quality of public art in San Marcos. The maximum amount to be awarded for a Mini-Grant is $2,000.

Applications will be available online at beginning Friday, April 9. The deadline to apply is Monday, June 3.

Applications will also be available at the Parks and Recreation Office located at 401 E. Hopkins Street. For additional information, contact Lisa Morris, Recreation Manager, at 512-393-8409.
