CTMC’s HealthCheck will have expanded venue and events

STAFF REPORT

The 24th Annual HealthCheck Community Health Fair and Screening, sponsored by Central Texas Medical Center (CTMC), will feature an expanded menu of things to do and see. The event will not be held this year at CTMC but will instead be at the City of San Marcos Conference Center, 1001 McCarty Lane, on April 22 from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. The public is encouraged to attend.

Event officials say the new venue for HealthCheck will allow for more vendor booths and will more comfortably accommodate the largest health screening event in Hays County.

“We are excited to continue to expand this important mission-outreach community health event,” said Barry Tyler, CTMC’s Institute for Healthy Living Manager. “Moving the event to a larger space is going to allow more people to participate and provide more helpful health information to participants the day of the event.”

HealthCheck is an economical and easily accessible way to get more than $400 worth of blood analysis for $35 dollars for all participants. The basic blood analysis includes a complete metabolic panel that screens for glucose, renal and liver disorders. The included lipid panel checks for cholesterol with High Density Lipoprotein (HDL) and Low Density Lipoprotein (LDL) breakdowns and triglycerides. A complete blood cell count is also done checking the number of white blood cells, hemoglobin, hematocrit levels and platelets.

For an additional $15 per test, screenings are also being offered for Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA), Thyroid Stimulating Hormone(TSH) and a Carotid Artery Screening.

Health Talk topics featuring local physicians will include Arthritis 101, Diabetes 101, Heart Health, Family Health Roundtable, Act in Time: Heart Attack Warnings, Stand Strong: Fall Prevention, and LoneStart: Wellness Initiative.
