The Texas State softball team is one-half of a game ahead of the Southland Conference pack after splitting a double header Sunday at Bobcat Field against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
The Bobcats won the opener, 7-6, but dropped the nightcap, 11-7. Texas State now is 13-13 overall and 9-3 in the league, just ahead of Stephen F. Austin, which is 7-2 in the Southland Conference. Corpus now is 19-10 overall and 6-6 in the league.
In the first game, Texas State’s Leah Boatright hit a first-inning grand slam and drove in five runs total. The Bobcats built their lead to 7-0 in the second inning. The victory gave Texas State coach Ricci Woodard 200 wins in the Southland Conference.
In the second game, Brittany Tucker hit a grand slam in the first inning for Corpus. Texas State battled back for a 7-6 lead, but Corpus scored five times in the fifth inning and the Bobcats couldn’t climb that hill.
It was the first Corpus win againstt the Bobcats since 2006. Texas State had defeated the Islanders 11 straight times.Email | Print
