A Buda man was sentenced to 25 years in prison for a robbery he committed at the Prime Outlet Mall in San Marcos ten months ago.
On May 11, 2009, Trinidad Olivares, 20, confronted a female shopper in the mall’s parking lot of the mall while brandishing what later proved to be an air gun. Olivares ordered the woman to hand over the keys to her vehicle, then sped off in the car.
The victim called 911 to report the incident. San Marcos Police Department (SMPD) officers located the stolen vehicle a short distance from mall. The vehicle began to flee prior to officers activated their emergency equipment. A lengthy pursuit ended when officers forcibly stopped the vehicle on SH 21 outside of the city limits.
The driver was identified as Olivares. Inside the vehicle, officers located a black air gun matching the description of the weapon used in the robbery. Olivares also was charged with evading arrest with a motor vehicle and was sentenced to two years in state jail for the offense.
Hays County District Attorney Sherri Tibbe praised the quick response of the SMPD in apprehending Olivares.Email | Print
