VICTORIA — The Texas State women’s golf team finished the first day of action at the Claud Jacobs Intercollegiate Tournament in second place with a 37-over-par score of 613 at the Victoria Club on Sunday afternoon.
During Sunday’s morning round, the Bobcats opened the tournament with the third-best first round score with a 311 and improved to second place after shooting nine strokes better as a team in the second round with a score of 302. Texas State is two shots back of Oklahoma heading into Monday’s final round.
Oklahoma ended the first day with a team score of 611, while first-round team leader Lamar is in third place after shooting a 309 in the first round and 307 in the second. The Cardinals are three shots back of Texas State and four shots ahead of Sam Houston State, who is in fourth place with a team score of 620. Akron rounds out the top five teams with a team score of 625.
Three Bobcats are listed among the top 10 players heading into Monday’s final round. Krista Puisite shot a one-under-par score of 71 in the second round after opening the tournament with a score of 79 and enters the third round tied for third place with Ellen Mueller and Andrea Sellmeyer of Oklahoma. Gabby de Reuck is in eighth place after finishing the first day with a nine-over-par score of 153, and Valdis Jonsdottir is tied for ninth place with Selby Hardy of Sam Houston State and Anna Carling of Arkansas State with a score of 10-over par.
Landa Stewart of Sam Houston State enters Monday’s final round as the individual leader after shooting a three-over-par score of 147 through 36 holes. Stine Pederson of Lamar is in second place and one shot back of Stewart. Akron’s Kristen Hill is in sixth place with a score of 151, while Jessica Schiele of the Redlands Community College is in seventh place with a score of 152.
Texas State’s Caitlin Bliss is in a four-way tie for 13th place with a score of 156 through the final 36 holes. The tournament concludes on Monday morning with an 8:30 shotgun start.
