The “Empty Bowls Project” in Buda last weekend raised $1,900 for the Hays County Food Bank, with about 100 local residents turning out to the event.

Casa Alde was completely packed with food bank supporters enjoying eight different homemade soups, along with freshly baked rolls and cornbread. As part of the $15 donation, participants had the option of taking home the soup bowl.

Local elected officials including Hays County District Attorney Sherri Tibbe, Justice of the Peace Beth Smith, State Rep. Patrick M. Rose, Kyle Mayor Lucy Johnson, Buda councilmember Sandra Tenorio and former Kyle City Council member, Pct. 2 Commissioner candidate Ray Bryant and other volunteers served the soup to guests.

  1. Those who engage in good works quietly and without fanfare for the benefit of others demonstrate true charity. Photo ops by elected officials demean the work of those unsung volunteers who do not seek recognition but only to give of themselves.

Typical Free Press coverage. Staged political propaganda. More suitable would have been photos of those who prepared the food.

    That’s my opinion.

  2. But no one even cares about your opinion Mr. O’dell. So why do you continue to inflict it upon us?

If it had been Sumter, Backus, and Karen Ford – I am certain you would have a different opinion. They were asked to volunteer – but did not.

Kudos to all of the people who bothered to care about the less fortunate. Chucky certainly doesn’t. By the way, what exactly have you done for the less fortunate? Oh, wait a minute, you spoke in favor of denying them a septic permit…..
