SAN ANTONIO — The Texas State women’s tennis team won its seventh straight match and improved to 4-0 in Southland Conference play with a 6-1 victory at UTSA on Tuesday at the UTSA Tennis Center.
The Bobcats won five of their six singles matches and all three doubles contests to earn the doubles point en route to a victory in the Annual I-35 Maroon vs. Orange Rivalry match.
Andrea Giraldo won the top singles match over Micaela Silva 6-1, 6-0 after teaming with Melissa Hadad to defeat Silva and Caroline Dedering 8-4 in the top doubles match. Hadad also won the number-two singles match over Dedering, 6-1, 6-4.
Texas State’s Mariana Perez teamed with Gabriela Rojas to defeat Kavya Menon and Katie Ottenbreit 8-4 in the number two doubles match, while Texas State seniors Kiki Kruse and Nyssa Peele also won the other doubles match-up, 8-1, over Sarah Adams and Mariel Maffezzolli.
In the other singles matches, Perez defeated Adams 6-1, 6-4 in the number-four match. Kruse improved her record to 7-0 in singles play with a 7-6, 6-0 win in number-five bout and Peele defeated Ottenbreitt 6-2, 6-1 in the number six match.
Menon scored the only team point for UTSA as she edged Rojas 6-7, 6-3, 11-9 in the number three-singles match-up.
Texas State will return home to the Bobcat Tennis Complex and play two matches this week. The Bobcats play host to Penn State on Wednesday, Mar. 10, at 11 a.m. Texas State returns to Southland Conference play on Saturday, Mar. 13 against UT Arlington at 11 a.m.
