CORPUS CHRISTI — The Texas State women’s tennis team won its sixth straight match and improved to 3-0 in Southland Conference play with a 5-2 victory over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at the HEB Tennis Center.
The Bobcats won the doubles point by winning all three doubles matches with Andrea Giraldo and Melissa Hadad defeating Doris Kuselj and Megan Harless by a score of 8-5 in the top doubles match. Freshmen Gabriela Rojas and Mariana Perez defeated Bianca Discordia and LeAnne Mascall 8-7 in the number two match and seniors Kiki Kruse and Nyssa Peele teamed to win the number-three match 8-6 over Nadia Filmalter and Adrienne Kovacs.
In singles action, the Bobcats recorded four wins. Hadad won her number-two match with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Discordia. Rojas also defeated Kovacs in the number-three match by a score of 6-2, 6-0. Kruse won the number five match over Harless 6-0, 6-3 and Peele won her number-six match over Filmalter 6-1, 6-3.
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi scored two points in singles as Kuselj defeated Giraldo 6-3, 6-3 in the top match and Mascall defeated Perez 4-6, 6-3, 10-7 in the number-four match.
The win improves Texas State’s overall record to 7-2 in 2010 as the Bobcats will travel to San Antonio, Texas on Sunday and play UTSA at the UTSA Tennis Center 11 a.m. Sunday, March 7.Email | Print
