The Rotary Club of San Marcos recently honored eight benefactors of Rotary programs as Paul Harris Fellows at the Price Seniors Center.
The fellowship, named for one of the three founding members of the Rotary, is given in appreciation for monetary contributions of $1,000 by an individual for the Rotary Foundation’s humanitarian and educational programs.
The recipients of the Paul Harris Fellow award point to combined donation to the Rotary Foundation of more than $15,000 by San Marcos Rotarians. Each received a certificate award and Paul Harris pin.
Dick Burdick was recognized as a fifth-time Paul Harris Fellow. Jerry Niemiec is a Paul Harris Fellow for the third time, while Al Brieger is so named for the second time. Chuck Forrester, Chuck Anderson, Bob Whalin, Gary Gooch and Carroll Wiley are Paul Harris Fellows for the first time.
The Rotary, founded in 1905, is a volunteer organization of 1.2 million business and professional leaders who meet to provide humanitarian and community service projects.
Their projects are both local and international and embrace a variety of challenges including hunger, health and education. The Rotary’s famous motto is “Service Above Self.”
