The Rio VIsta neighborhood, where a two-year improvements project will begin Saturday.
The Rio Vista Terrace Neighborhood Improvements Project is about to get underway Saturday with groundbreaking ceremony at the San Marcos Nature Center, 430 Riverside Drive, at 9 a.m. The public is invited to attend.
Scheduled to be present at the ceremony and formally begin the project are San Marcos Mayor Susan Narvaiz, members of the San Marcos city council and neighborhood leaders.
“The City of San Marcos is excited about beginning a major improvement project that has been long awaited by the residents of Rio Vista Terrace,” Narvaiz said. “We hope residents will join us in celebrating the beginning of this project. We look forward to staying in touch with them as the project progresses.”
The serious work will start on the two-year city project Monday. The $9.3 million project will provide new waterlines, new wastewater lines, storm drains, streets, curbs, and sidewalks in an area which houses 300 families and 25 businesses.
The work, which will be done by Texas Sterling Construction Company, is slated for completion in 2010.
Rio Vista Terrace includes Cheatham Street from Hopkins Street to Riverside Drive, Haynes Street, Field Street, Sycamore Street, Rio Vista Street, and McKinnon Street. Improvements are scheduled to be made from Interstate-35 frontage road to the railroad tracks.
