Activity Center juggling class good for what ails you

STAFF REPORT

Aaron Friend, who recently taught a juggling class at the San Marcos Public Library, will be teaching five classes in juggling throughout the spring and summer at the San Marcos Activity Center, 501 East Hopkins Street. The first four-week course starts on Wednesday from 6-7 p.m. The fee is $25.

The class will start with scarves and through practice, lead to rings, balls and even group passing. The activity center describes the course as a friendly and cooperative atmosphere that allows for success. Any student less than 12 years old must be accompanied by an adult.

Friend said that while juggling has been around for 4,000 years, it is only recently that studies have shown its healthful benefits. He reports that in the last ten years, juggling has been effectively used in treating depression, dyslexia, ADHD, delayed speech and reading, and the prevention of Alzheimer’s disease. It is also known to increase hand-eye coordination.
