Texas State makes entrepreneurial sweep at competition

The “30 Minutes with an Entrepreneurial Hero” competition held by the American Marketing Association (AMA) recently, found Texas State placing more finalists than any school in the country. The competition is sponsored by the AMA and the Acton Foundation for Entrepreneurial Excellence.

Out of 112 total applicants, Andrew Holliday of Texas State took second place.  Additional finalists from Texas State include Alyssa Douglass, Kristin O’Neal, Matt Bridger, Josh Heckman, Jaci Johnson, Krystal Slater, Samantha Spillman, Matthew Kabat and Andrea Janak .

The “30 Minutes with an Entrepreneurial Hero” competition gave 28 AMA collegiate chapter members an opportunity to win a grant to help with expenses to attend the 2010 AMA Collegiate Conference in New Orleans. It also allowed students to meet successful entrepreneurs and get firsthand knowledge about entrepreneurial success from business leaders.

In the competition, each student met with an entrepreneur of her choice, asked him questions and then wrote an essay delineating what the experience taught her.

The total prize money awarded was $5,800, with one first place winner receiving $500, two second place winners awarded $300 and 25 finalists at $200 each.
