The San Marcos High School (SMHS) Auditorium circle will be filled with the fragrance of Fuschak’s Pit Barbeque as the San Marcos CISD Tennis Booster Club holds a benefit barbecue plate sale there on Friday from 4-6 p.m.
The plates will feature beef brisket, sausage, beans, potato salad and all the fixin’s for $6 a plate. The sale is a drive-through event.
The booster club is holding the sale to benefit the school district’s growing tennis program and the state-ranked district championship tennis team.
“This BBQ plate fundraiser will help provide needed landscaping that will expand the viewing area and protect the district’s investment at the SMHS tennis courts from erosion,” said Mary Braun, president of the booster club.
Tickets can be purchased at the event, from any tennis player, or by calling (512) 757-0601.
The boosters also are preparing for a giant yard sale and asking local residents to donate unneeded items to the event. The yard sale is slated for March 6 at the VFW Hall on Hunter Road.
“This is an opportunity for residents to recycle their unneeded items and support our local tennis players,” Braun said. “We are collecting gently used items, such as household items, clothing, furniture and more.”
The tax-deductible donations may be dropped off at the VFW Hall on Hunter Road on March 5 from 3-8 p.m. Other arrangements for drop-off should made by calling (512) 787-0387.
The club’s “Raquet Round-up” continues for donations of tennis racquets for students who cannot afford them.
“As our tennis program grows and we have more and more students at high school and junior high playing tennis, we have a need for racquets for students who cannot afford them,” said SMHS tennis coach Jack Hughes.
Raquets may be dropped off at the SMHS tennis courts or Victory Cleaners at 418 South LBJ Drive and at 102 Wonder World Drive.
Cash donations to support the tennis program may be mailed to SMCISD Tennis Booster Club, c/o Jack Hughes, 2601 East McCarty Lane, San Marcos, TX 78666.
Residents who would like to get their children involved in tennis can call Hughes at (512) 393-6800 and leave a message.Email | Print
