The critically acclaimed, internationally recognized dance company from Mexico, Lux Boreal will join Texas State’s Merge Dance Company in a performance of “Del Otro Lado” Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at Evans Auditorium on the campus of Texas State.
With support from Texas State’s Equity and Access Committee and the San Marcos Arts Commission, admission is free and open to the public.
“Del Otro Lado” is a multi-media dance celebration featuring a wide range of styles and themes. The performances will include both light and dramatic pieces. The choreography of guest dance company Lux Boreal will also be showcased. ‘Del Otro Lado” is a Spanish phrase for “across” or “the other side.”
Founded in 2002 in Tijuana by Henry Torres, Angel Arambula and Alvaro Valdez, all students in the School of Contemporary Dance of Mazatlan, Lux Boreal has garnered a reputation for provocative, edgy choreography and athletic dancing.
The recently formed Merge Dance Company at Texas State will premiere in “Del Otro Lado.” The fledgling dance troop hopes to focus recognition on the University’s Theatre and Dance department’s new bachelor of fine arts degree in dance.
The event is a joint effort by the Department of Theatre and Dance and the School of Journalism and Mass Communication.
