February was proclaimed Texas Round-Up Month by San Marcos Mayor Susan Narvaiz and the city council to aid promotion of the statewide Governor’s Challenge Texas Round-Up. The program encourages adults, kids and communities to join either the GetFitTexas or the FitKids initiatives to be more active and get in better shape.
GetFitTexas is a free program that encourages participants to exercise regularly and allows them to keep track of their progress online. The program is segmented in six-week cycles. Each time a segment is completed at or above the recommended levels, participants receive certificates of completion.
Adults are challenged to exercise two and a half hours or 150 minutes per week. Children are challenged to get in five hours or 300 minutes of physical activity per week.
The City of San Marcos is encouraging its employees to join the program.
