The Hays High School girls basketball team is deep into the playoffs and the San Marcos boys basketball team is just getting the playoffs started, but they have something in common.
Both are playing Huntsville Tuesday night.
Seeking a second straight trip to the state tournament, Hays will play Huntsville at Brenham (7 p.m.) in the third round of the playoffs. A win would put Hays into the Region III tournament later this week in Houston.
Meanwhile, the Rattlers will go to Rockdale to take on the Huntsville boys team at 7:30 p.m. San Marcos goes to the playoffs as the third-place team from District 17-4A after finishing 18-14 overall and 8-4 in the district.
Hays center Paige Lord took a star turn last Friday night in the Rebels’ 58-52 win against Beaumont Central in Waller. Lord scored all six of her points and made several other key possession plays in the fourth quarter, enabling the Rebels to break ahead in a game that was tied, 40-40, after three quarters.
Angeleigh Davis led Hays (26-9) with 17 points, Brooke Borreson scored 12 and Ashley Rankine added another 10 for Hays.Email | Print
