Texas State’s baseball team is off to a nice start, sweeping three games at Houston during the weekend to open their season.
The Bobcats finished off their sweep with wins of 6-3 on Saturday and 9-7 on Sunday.
Texas State took over both games in the middle innings. Saturday, they scored three runs in the sixth inning for a 5-3 lead when Kyle Kubitza hit a run-scoring single with no outs and Laurn Randell bashed a two-run single with two outs. Meanwhile, Lee Colon pitched four shutout innings of brilliant relief, allowing only three hits while striking out five.
In Sunday’s game, Texas State’s Tyler Sibley broke a 2-2 tie in the fifth with a three-run homer. Texas State tacked on two more runs in the sixth, one in the seventh and one in the eighth for a 9-2 lead. Houston scored three times in the eighth, then added one in the ninth before they loaded the bases with one out.
The Bobcats brought in Carson Smith, who induced a ground out and a strikeout to end the game with his second save of the season.
