It has been 84 years since Dr. Carter G. Woodson founded what is now known as Black History Month. San Marcos Mayor Susan Narvaiz commemorated the anniversary last week by making a formal proclamation honoring the month.
On hand to accept the honor was Central Texas civil rights pioneer Harvey Miller.
The Dunbar Center has hosted events during the month to celebrate African-American history, achievements and contributions, as well as to raise awareness of the African-American experience.
