Hays High School hosted the Region 18 University Interscholastic League (UIL) competition on Feb. 6, when San Marcos High School Rattler band members competed with winning results and advanced to the state competition. The band directors are Juan Cavazos and Kelly Rushfeldt.
Said Cavazos, “The students represented SMCISD well by bringing home a total of 11 solo medals and 18 ensemble medals. Out of all these excellent performances, three ensembles and five soloists advanced to state level UIL solo and ensemble competition, which is to be held at the prestigious Butler School of Music -University of Texas in May.”
Division 1 is the highest possible rating and indicates a superior performance. In the solo category, Division 1 was awarded to Kati Burroughs, Nicole Sprott, Charles Chivington, Tony Sandoval, Mark (Gabe) DeLeon, Cameron Herber, Clint Herber, Jeremy Gonzales, Brandon DeLeon, Gage Sears and Luisa Ruge-Jones.
In the ensemble category, Division 1 was awarded to Alicia Barcenas, Kati Burroughs, Terry House, Kelsie Singleton, Mark DeLeon, Hayley North, Samuel Stone, Justin Tello, Andres Urrutia, Kasey Campa, Tianna Chandler, Maritza Collazo, Sarah Ferrara, Samantha Jennings, Kayla Key, Taylor Ralph, Samantha Scherbek and Courtney Smith.Email | Print
