STAFF REPORT

More than 100 people gathered at the Price Seniors Center earlier this month to watch the “Voices of Hays County” video featuring long-time resident Gwen Smith. San Marcos Mayor Susan Narvaiz presented Smith with the “Spirit of San Marcos” Award after the screening.

The “Voices of Hays County” is a project of the Hays County Historical Commission (HCHC). The HCHC has produced several videos featuring Hays County residents relating their living histories and reminiscing about the changes that have occurred in Hays County.

The videos are available for purchase on DVD at the HCHC website, www.hayshistoricalcommission.com, as are numerous books on the history of the area. Other titles available include the HCHC’s documentary film on Jack C. Hays. The “Voices of History” offerings feature Ofelia Vasquez-Philo of San Marcos, Moe Johnson and Bob Barton talking about Kyle and Buda, and Bradley Davis on Dripping Springs.

The next oral history screening is slated for Feb. 28, featuring San Marcos resident Ollie Giles.
