Todd Ruge, who failed in a bid to join the Buda City Council in 2008, has announced his candidacy for the council’s Place 2 in the May 8 election.
Ruge, 37, serves on the Buda Zoning Board of Adjustment and has served as the vice president for The Friends of the Buda Public Library.
“I’m excited about the prospect of continuing to serve the citizens of Buda at the council level and working collaboratively to insure a shared vision of a great community,” Ruge said. “Buda is on the threshold of many important decisions, and quality leadership will be crucial.”
No other candidates for the position have announced. The seat is presently held by Councilmember Kelly Allen. Another council seat, Place 1, also will be on the May ballot. That seat is held by Councilmember Ron Fletcher.
Ruge finished third in a three-way race for the Place 6 council seat in 2008, dropping out of the run-off by only six votes. Former Buda Mayor Billy Gray finished first in that general election with 180 votes, compared with 110 for Scott Dodd and 104 for Ruge. In a stunning turnaround, Dodd then won the run-off with 195 votes to only 85 for Gray.
