The second Weight Watcher program at Central Texas Medical Center (CTMC), 1301 Wonder World Drive, will kick-off with an open house Tuesday from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the CTMC Community Classroom.
CTMC’s Institute for Health Living Manager Barry Tyler said, “We are delighted to offer such a great program to our employees and the community. Weight Watchers provides people a chance to stay healthy with the help of a supportive and a caring environment.”
The 17-week program begins a week later, on Feb. 9. Weekly meetings will be held in the Community Classroom at CTMC from 3:30-4:30 p.m. A second session will be added on Fridays from 12:30-1:30 p.m. and will be started if a minimum of 20 participants register for this lunch hour session.
Participants at Weight Watchers meetings begin with a private weigh-in to help keep them on track with their weight-loss goals. At the meetings, leaders direct discussions about specific topics, which run the gamut from stress eating to family meal ideas and other tips.
CTMC Home Health Director Carol Trafford said, “I have lost 36 pounds in the last 12 weeks. I’ve learned a lot about myself and why I have the eating habits I have, and I’ve learned new ways to manage my food ‘demons.’ The most important thing for me is the peer support. I love seeing my Weight Watchers partners in the hallway where we share recipes and comment on how our clothes are getting baggy. I look forward to losing the next 36 pounds and gaining more new friends.”
